I'm so very grateful that the one (and only) time I've seen Hamilton on stage was with Javier Muñoz, Lin's standby (I saw it off-broadway).

As much as I love Lin-Manuel (and I do), Munoz was a sensation in the role.

I do love Lin too, but there are parts of Hamilton where his only moderate acting skills and his infectious child-adult enthusiasm does not work for the show. I'm glad I saw Munoz in it for my first ever experience with the show, and have the album with Lin if I want that, and of course the filmed version, which I still haven't seen.

I had a phenomenal experience seeing it at the Public with Munoz and the rest of the OBC, even now 9 years later I'm not sure I have a desire to see it again and risk being disappointed by the show or new cast members. It's never going to be a favorite musical of mine, not because I didn't love it, but because it just isn't the kind of musical that haunts my mind and heart. But some day I'll revisit it with someone playing Alexander who isn't Lin. Unless it's watching the film.

I saw it with Miranda, and Leslie Odom was just at a totally different level than Miranda in terms of the depth of the portrayal that I think it kind of altered the dynamics of the piece in an unintended way. Amadeus is really more about Salieri than Mozart, and Hamilton with Miranda and Odom had more hints of that than I think Miranda the playwright had intended.
