I left out the pre-recorded vs. live music controversy because I thought it was irrelevant. The issue was resolved before ''Here Lies Love'' began performances there. The show played a couple engagements Off-Broadway, where this was never an issue. It only became one on Broadway.

If the Tonys really wanted to avoid ''controversy,'' they could've stuck it to ''Here Lies Love'' and skunked it.

But it actually got 4 nominations, more than any other closed musical. Heck, that's even more than a handful of musicals that are still running.

If only ''Here Lies Love'' could've opened this spring, instead of last summer (huh?!), this year's Tony race would be very different.

Anyway, my larger point remains: Talented Asian-Americans rarely get the opportunities on Broadway or the Tony nominations (I think) they deserve.
