My 6th grade teacher was actually named Sr. Mary Ignatius. She once reported me to our assistant pastor because I was reading Gone With the Wind. She told him I was too young and too innocent to understand Belle Watling's activities. The priest asked me if I understood what Belle did. I told him (in Sr. Ignatius' presence) that Belle performed sexual activities with men for money. Fr. Lynch then told her, "Sister, he understands so let him read it." He then told me to put a plain cover on the book to cover up Vivien Leigh's cleavage.
The only Durang play I've ever seen is Vanya and Sonia. I caught it on Broadway and at the Goodman. I loved both productions. |
