For a long time, the trade paper then known as The Billboard ran a feature called the "Broadway Showlog." For most of the time that this feature was run, it merely listed the current total number of performances for each Broadway show, but for two years in the 1940s it offered extremely detailed reporting on what had gone on the previous week at each Broadway show and what was coming up. If someone was out in a show, it reported on that. It reported on how many performances the person missed, and who went on for the person. Not only were replacements announced, but often replacements for ensemble members were announced. It was kind of amazing. But it lasted only two years.
