Congrats to Maltby and Shire for getting such a deserved honor for their lifetime of achievements. I've always adored their fun and infectious score to ''Baby'' and especially Liz Callaway belting ''The Story Goes On.'' I've enjoyed many of their wonderful songs from their Off-Broadway revues ''Sharting Here, Starting Now'' and ''Closer Than Ever.'' To be frank, I can't recall much about their other Broadway musical, ''Big,'' but I do remember one amazing song: "'I Want to Know.'' Even though ''Big'' flopped on Broadway, I hear it's had a very healthy life regionally.

But ''Baby'' was in 1996 - nearly 3 decades ago. Does anyone who know why Maltby and Shire haven't had a new musical on Broadway since? I realize they're busy guys: Shire is an Oscar-winning songwriter who's also written lotsa scores for TV and film, and Maltby is also a Tony-nominated director of other shows, such as ''Song and Dance'' and ''Fosse.'' Did their experience on ''Big'' disillusion them about writing for Broadway? I read they wrote ''Take Flight,'' which was done in London in 2007. Any here catch it? I would've loved to have seen more Maltby & Shire musicals.
