Linklater has always been open to experimentation and capturing the ephemeral. Why not one up himself by making TWO versions of Merrily.
It would be great if he filmed this production with this trio as they are now (or co-direct with Friedman) AND continue with his 2039 plans. 15 years is a long enough time to have a new version of the same material. Look at Planet of the Apes. Or Spider-Man. Or closer to home with musicals - RENT (movie and tv) Or Hairspray (movie and tv) Or Annie (remake and tv)
