| Just to add a stupid, useless little tidbit, the translation of “Married” used for the movie, the Mendes script and all subsequent versions using it was done by Robert Gilbert for the 1970 Viennese production. You can hear it charmingly sung on the Viennese recording by the legendary Lya Dulitzkaya and Harry Fuss in the corresponding recording. I believe it’s available streaming. You also get to hear the first female Emcee sung by the equally-legendary Blanche Aubry. As mentioned in an earlier thread about a Time Machine to see a past production, this would be one of mine. |
