I started attending Broadway theater in the early 1960s. Doors opened a half hour before curtain, but, as I recall, theatergoers did not stand in formal lines. In true NYC fashion, everyone just sort of crowded in. The first time I noticed a regimented line was in 2001 for the revival of "Bells are Ringing." .
