| What you say is technically true, but not everyone gets to see a story. At least I know I didn’t. I’m aware the Scottish play was a reference point for Sleep No More - but it was awfully difficult to discern at times. I often found myself in empty rooms where very little was happening, actors were just leaving, and/or found myself among small crowds of audience members who were literally running from room-to-room chasing after a noise they heard coming from another room. I felt as if they were treating the proceedings like an amusement park’s haunted house rather than a piece of theater. I saw some scenes more than once. Other scenes perhaps not at all. And, it’s not that I’m unfamiliar with Macbeth. I’ve seen maybe a dozen or more professional productions over the years and studied it in both high school and college. I can’t imagine what it would be like for someone unfamiliar with the play. I can’t imagine they would get very much of Macbeth from attending Sleep No More. Again, it just wasn’t for me. I know many others enjoy it. |
