Much of Peter Barnes has had limited exposure in the US. They are usually large expansive works with huge casts and long playing times. I saw an exciting production of Red Noses at Trinity Rep starring the brilliant Peter Gerry directed by Adrian Hall who specialized in large and challenging works. We did an enormous production of The Bewitched in graduate school. Barnes came for a visit and told us that he could only make a living doing adaptations of plays because his own were so difficult to produce.
